Leonardo DiCaprio revealed that his biggest regret was turning down a role in “Boogie Nights“, a film by Paul Thomas Anderson.

When asked by Anderson during an interview with Esquire if he regretted anything in his more than 35-year career, the actor admitted to the director himself that he still deeply regrets rejecting the role that ultimately went to Mark Wahlberg in the 1997 production.

“I’ll say it even though you’re here: my biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights. It was a profound film of my generation,” he said.

“When I finally got to watch the film, I thought it was a masterpiece. It’s ironic that you’re the one asking me this, but it’s true,” he continued.

DiCaprio didn’t accept Anderson’s invitation to star in “Titanic“, the film that made him world-famous. Even so, DiCaprio confessed that he would have loved to be part of both productions.

“I’m not saying I would have done it. But it would have been a different direction, career-wise… I would have been happy to do both,” explained the 50-year-old actor.

“And the truth is, if I hadn’t done Titanic, I wouldn’t be able to make the kinds of films or have the career I have now, for sure. But it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if I had taken the other path,” he reflected.
